Hunting and Fishing in the Adirondacks -

Staying in the Adirondacks is like entering a time warp... nature abounds (just this morning, I passed three eight point bucks on the way into town for a donut!) Fall is mating season for moose, so moose sightings are on the rise, too! Here at the North Woods Inn, we honor our past and celebrate our present by encouraging our guests to visit the nearby Adirondack Museum while here. On Saturday, September 27th the museum will celebrate "National Hunting and Fishing Day" with anextravaganza of programs, demonstrations, and music for outdoor enthusiasts. Offerings include "Casting a Line" with licensed guide and fisherman Patrick Sisti. There will be fly-tying and lure-making demonstrations, a living history camp, and an author's corner featuring Dan Ladd, author of a book about deer hunting in the Adirondacks. The Department of Environmental Conservation booth will provide information about hunting and fishing the ADKs. The photo above is from the museum's collection: those pictured worked out of the Blue Mountain House in the 1880's, when guiding was one of the more lucrative professions here in the Adirondack Mountains. Join us this weekend or book a room here any day of the week and learn more about the park and its history.
